Abby is a native Houstonian and Texas Longhorn who has also lived in Colorado and Minnesota. During her time in Colorado, she founded a company called Women, Purpose and Power, which provided retreats for women who wanted to uncover their purpose in life and were seeking direction. Eventually, she relocated to Minnesota where she volunteered in nursing homes with her therapy dog. She would go from room to room with her pup and sit with the women there, many of whom were completely alone and without friends or family to visit them. Abby herself found a deep sense of purpose and meaning in being with those women during the most fragile moments, including their final ones. She always let the nursing home patients know that they mattered and that their lives mattered and felt it was such a gift to have the privilege to do that.

Abby is a certified Yoga instructor with a passion for flowers - she’s worked in many flower shops throughout her life, even one right here in Houston.

The happiness on her clients’ faces is what gives Abby such a sense of meaning from her work with JoyCare. She truly believes that people need to feel like they make a difference and that their lives matter in order to feel happy; giving people that gift is what Abby loves most about her work.

“JoyCare isn’t just about the giving of joy, it’s about giving our clients the opportunity to give joy, too.” - Abigail Hartland
